"I have been fascinated by bears for a long time. People's relationship to bears has always been very contradictory. While the teddy bear is the most beloved cuddly toy, the wild ones nearly disappeared in Europe. Even the last ones are still hunted. Bears are very popular in zoos. There I often made sketches and took photographs. When I finally found mohair, perfectly matching the structure and colour of bear's fur, I had the idea of creating another natural looking bear as in real life. I intended to present them in their typical and special way of posing and so I spent again days and days of watching and sketching them.
Whilst one bear is roaming the wilderness, you can see its typical back with its hump. The other bear relaxes and leans against a rock. The little one stands up and stretches because it is curious to see what its friends are doing."
