What you always wanted to know about Kösen and plush animals of outstanding quality and design

Study ...

Kösen plush animals are very life-like thanks to a multifaceted design process. It is of vital importance for a good design that the designers observe and study animals in their natural habitat or in zoos.

Drawing.

Draw ...

Photos and drawings are revised at home and perfected.

Implementation ....

Based on the designers' drawings they produce clay models of the animals. Patterns are produced in line with these models which are then revised over and over again until the realistic looking plush animal is finally realised.

Fur.

Fur ...

Many animals in nature are impressive because of the beautiful pattern of their furs. In order to represent these patterns appropriately, Kösen realises different alternatives.
Sometime patterns are assembled from various patches , eg. the young wild board. In other cases patterned fake furs are available, eg. for the cows.
It is not uncommon for a Kösen animal to consist of 10 an more different fur fabrics.

Tailor-made Furs ....

Often the prefabricated patterns intended for the garment industry are not suitable. Therefore, designs Kösen prints for several animals themselves. This is a rather time consuming process which demands a combination of careful studies of nature and technological expertise.

Eyes ...

Selecting the perfect eyes can be very difficult but they are decisive for the facial expression of the animals. Kösen only inserts top quality plastic eyes, some of which are customised and are produced exclusively for Kösen. The eyes are further accented by the special cut and the paint.

Cutting ....

The quality of the material used calls for a careful and therefore costly manufacturing process of Kösen handcrafted animals. For example, longer-pile fur fabric is cut by hand. A particular distinction of Kösen life-like plush animals is that they consist of a large number of individual pieces.

Sewing and Stuffing...

More often than not over 40 single pieces are required for one animal; some even consist of over 70 pieces. As those pieces are often very small, stitching has to be done very carefully.
The sewn pieces are then pulled inside out so that the safety eyes can be inserted.
To ensure that Kösen animals are firm but soft and cuddly, it is important that they are filled with the right stuffing.
NB. Apart from Kösen's Studio Range, there are no metal frames inside these animals to avoid metal fatigue.

Finishing Touches ....

Many more procedures have to be carried out before the Kösen life-like plush animal is ready, eg. sewing up, shaping, embroidering and painting.

Finished Product ...

Once the animal has been combed and passed stringent quality controls at each individual design and production process, it is released into "the wild" for you to enjoy.
